FREE all-day workshop skills to confidently teach the Armenian Genocide requirements included in the World History TEKS since 2018.
February 2
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you, your faculty, and any interested students to join us for a FREE all-day workshop to equip teachers with the lessons, knowledge and skills to confidently teach the Armenian Genocide requirements included in the World History TEKS since 2018.
On Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Hall of Lights in Carrollton, TX (next to Hebron High School) professional educators from The Genocide Education Project, Southern Methodist University Human Rights Program and Armenian community members from St. Sarkis Armenian Church will come together for the first time in Texas to present “Seeing the Humanity in Each of Us – Lessons of the Armenian Genocide” teacher workshop. Funding for the workshop is provided by a generous grant awarded by the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) for Armenian Genocide education.
The workshop is open to any secondary teacher in the state of Texas, as well as university and college faculty members and their students, and will provide professional development credit for those needing it. We encourage attending the workshop in person to receive the most powerful engaging experience; however, live stream is available for teachers unable to travel to Carrollton. (please see the attached flyer for registration information)
Seeing the Humanity in Each of Us: The Lessons of the Armenian Genocide teacher workshop will include:
- Lessons on how to teach about genocide and fulfill the TEKS requirements
- Historical background of Armenia and the Armenian Genocide
- Armenian Genocide survivor descendent testimonies
- History of Armenians in Texas
- Tour of the St. Sarkis Armenian Church complex
- Armenian Lunch (in person only)
- A copy of the historical fiction novel The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian (in person only)
Please disseminate the flyer attached and invite current or future Social Studies and English Language Arts teachers and interested scholars to attend this FREE professional development workshop. We look forward to meeting you at the workshop and hearing back from you or answering any questions you have.
Best wishes,TEACHERS WORKSHOP FLYER (1) (2)
